About Me

So where did I come up with “holistic-healing.art”? When you look at the word “holistic”, this is what is says: *Philosophy: characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole. *Medicine: characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms. Now the “.art” instead of “.com” or “.ca” I thought was appropriate as I am an artist and art is very therapeutic for me. When you look at the word “art”, this is what it says: Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts (artworks), expressing the author’s imaginative, conceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power”… so art could be dance, painting, sculpting, singing, music, cooking…

So, movement feeds the body. Learning feeds the mind. Art feeds the soul. So, “holistic-healing.art” is healing all aspects of your life: body, mind and soul.

The more I delve into health, wellness, Buddhism, Ayurveda, life coaching, nutrition, reiki, intuition – whatever! – I’ve come to realize that a holistic approach is, really, the only way to go. I don’t know about anyone else, but modern, accepted medicine has left me distinctly disappointed. A lot of medical issues that doctors and specialists have not been able to explain, improve, or reverse and yet, I have been able to pinpoint situations that trigger reactions. Yes, we need modern medicine, but we also have to start taking responsibility for our own health and well being and stop relying on doctors who are more likely to push pills to treat symptoms than try to get to the root of an issue.

I think people – and some medical professionals – are recognizing that it’s not as simple as: “Gaining weight? Stop eating so much”. It’s more complex than that. More things need to be addressed: What are you eating? When are you eating? How do you feel before/during/after eating? How is work/home/life? Everything happens for a reason… mostly… but it’s cause and effect. I’m not sleeping well, I go to work, I’m tired and my body wants energy NOW. It knows if I eat certain things, I’ll get that energy rush to get my day moving… sound familiar? The problem is, I’m sleeping well. My sleep schedule is 9-5 and for the most part, I get to sleep well, and get up very shortly if not immediately after waking (vs laying in bed) and yet, I’m still exhausted. So at my last doctor’s appointment, I brought it up and the doctor sent me for blood work.

The key is to know when you need to go to a medical professional – to have those conversations and get tested to make sure there’s nothing more serious going on. Yes, I’m sure a good portion of my tiredness is I’ve gotten lazy over the past little while and it’s being really hard re-establishing that habit of exercising, but a lot of my symptoms point at hypothyroidism… so he’s having it tested – with some other stuff.

My background before joining the military was Personal Trainer, Yoga Fitness Leader, and Holistic Nutritionist. Since joining the military, I’ve gotten a Life Coaching certification, done Reiki Master training, plus I’ll be looking at Holistic Health and Wellness Certification, Life Purpose Life Coach Certification, and Vegan Nutritionist Certification. I also hope to learn how to make a guided meditation app as meditation has been essential to my personal growth. Though most of my learning is more for my own personal interest, my passion really is about helping others.

This website/blog will be tapping into my experiences, and hopefully the experiences of others. It’s hopefully going to inspire others to take control of their life and live happier and healthier!
